12 years ago I bought the original Rowenta steam generator - model DG050 - and it has served me well. The DG050 is smaller, both the steam chamber and the soleplate/iron part. I never found this to be a problem - never ran out of steam on the DG050.

This model the DG8030 has an easier to fill water system and lots of nice lights to tell you when the steam is ready to go. You can also fill it without having to wait for it to cool down.

I would not have bought it but two weeks before xmas, a feline swan-dived onto my ironing board and brought it crashing down, breaking the plastic steam button. Off to the service center it went, and they estimated 3+ weeks for repair. I bought this one as a sewist, I cannot be without an iron.

If my old standby can be repaired I will use it and sell this for one reason: It weighs a ton! My shoulder ached after an hour of pushing this around.

Don't get me wrong, DG8030 works great as the other 5 star reviews reveal, so I won't repeat them here. You should be aware that if you are a weakling like me in the upper body, you may find wielding this makes you feel like Bodaecia! Guys will definitly like it.

Steam generator was a gift for my daughter-in-law as a replacement for an older Rowenta steam generator. She loves it! As she irons everything and most clothes are cotton, she has had lots of experience with various models of irons and steam generators. This one is, by far, the best one she has used and she would rate it above the maximum 5 stars.

Unfortunately I am unable to write a review of this iron because I have never received it. This review is about All Brands. I ordered this on January 9, 2010, with the Amazon site stating product was available. Six days later I received an email from AllBrands stating the item was backordered. I rechecked Amazon, and product was still listed as available. I sent an email to AllBrands wanting to know why it was listed as available, when it was not. Then I received an email from All Brands stating item had been shipped. "Item" arrived today which was a tube of soleplate cleaner which I had never ordered, with Backorder listed for iron. Now Amazon's records show item is shipped and delivered, and I can't cancel order. I called Amazon and complained about deceptive practices from this vendor and requested iron to be ordered from another vendor. Amazon stated no other vendor was available, so they cancelled order. I will order this iron from another more responsible company. I will never order anything from All Brands again.

This is actually a present for my wife who does tons of sewing and is a crafter. We kid her as having more material than Wal-Mart. I purchased an earlier brand a few years ago, and she has used it almost daily till it finally quit.. I figured I would update her to a new one, but at the same time felt bad about about disposing of the old one. Well, I took the old one to a local appliance repair shop, and for $50.00 It is as good as new. Now she has a back up or can give it away to one of the kids. Like the old saying goes, "if mom ain't happy nobody is happy."
SHE IS VERY HAPPY.
